When we shipped Stripe's extensibility SDK this year, AI was involved at every stage. But the story people expect - "AI wrote a lot of code and we shipped faster" - isn't the interesting one.

The interesting part is what AI did to the stages that usually slow platform work down: the gap between an idea and a working prototype, between a prototype and a reviewable spec, between a spec and aligned implementation, and between implementation and polished deliverable.

AI compressed all of those gaps - not by replacing human judgment, but by making human judgment more effective by giving it better artifacts to operate on, earlier in the process. That changed the quality of our decisions, not just the speed of our output.
