Introducing Amutable Foundations

Today we’re opening signups for the private preview of Amutable Foundations. It’s a Linux-based system, engineered to be provable at every level. Every machine, every software image, and every configuration running is hardware attested, providing the foundation for machine identity and compliance auditing.

Traditionally, admins installed packages and applied configurations on Linux systems; over time those systems drifted into unknown states. As an industry, we’ve built an ecosystem of tools (config management, scanners, etc.) in an attempt to bring this under control. But essentially we are bolting solutions onto a shaky foundation.

To confront this challenge more fundamentally, many Linux distros introduced immutable, image-based systems. These minimal, read-only operating systems transformed inconsistent package updates into high-certainty swaps of atomic, signed disk images. Several of the visionaries who got us where we are today are now working on what’s next: Amutable Foundations.
