Marelleo

A box that plays a story when a child puts a figurine on top. I built it for my three kids knowing nothing about electronics, and learned the whole thing by breaking things.

The finished Marelleo box, a beige 3D printed cube sitting on a wooden table, with a circle engraved on top. Two painted wooden figurines, teal and coral, stand beside it and on it.

It started as an irritation on holiday

Last summer, on holiday with friends and a small tribe of children, I came across the Toniebox. And honestly, I thought it was great. The child puts a figurine on the box, the story starts. They take it off, it stops. No screen, no menu, no parent to go and fetch. A two year old gets it in one second, which is roughly the highest level of usability anyone can reach.
