Antibiotic resistance is a growing global concern, projected to cause approximately 40 million deaths over the next 25 years1. Phage therapy offers a promising alternative when antibiotics fail, but finding phages that target a patient’s bacterial infection remains a major challenge. We trained Omnii-1, our multimodal genome language model, to help bridge this gap. We demonstrate that it can generate viable phages, prioritize variants, and predict phage-host interactions. In the world's first clinical use of AI-generated phages, Omnii-1 designs were administered to a human patient under compassionate use, marking a milestone toward personalized, AI-designed therapies for antibiotic-resistant infections.
