Very low cholesterol targets cut cardiovascular events by 33%

Empirical Health walks through the Ez-PAVE randomized trial (NEJM, 2026), in which people with cardiovascular disease assigned an LDL cholesterol target below 55 mg/dL had a 33% lower rate of cardiovascular events (6.6% vs 9.7% over three years) than those targeting below 70 mg/dL, even though only 61% reached the lower target, with no significant difference in side effects.
