Ghostty 1.4.0 Release Notes

Ghostty 1.4.0, seven months of work from 172 contributors, adds macOS 27 support, the first complete non-Kitty implementation of Kitty graphics (animation and relative placements), scrollback compression and lower memory use, a new OpenGL renderer on Linux, the Kitty clipboard protocol, a ghostty +ssh integration, security fixes, and a roadmap that drops Windows GUI plans in favour of libghostty.

The Terminal in JetBrains IDEs Now Runs on libghostty

Starting with 2026.3, the built-in terminal in JetBrains IDEs replaces JediTerm with libghostty, Ghostty's emulation library, bringing the Kitty keyboard protocol (so Shift+Enter works in Claude Code and Codex), theme-following dark/light queries, and correct handling of nearly 50 control sequences that TUI apps rely on.
